What Can You Use from This Exercise in Your Class?

  1. We think this is a good exercise for visual learners. Using a medium like this is a great alternative to traditional writing. It would be great to give students choices about how they would complete an assignment that would appeal to their learning style. It gives the students more control over their success and gives them more opportunities to be creative.

  2. Tomeka and I agree that there are great methods intertwined with this assignment. First, we though it was a good idea for the groupwork, so students don't feel stuck in the situation, and they also can learn to work with others learning styles and personalities. Many students also do not know how to use ppt, this excercise expands their technology experiences and also helps them find more ways of presentation and creativity.

  3. I realize that making sure students are prepared and have the knowledge of how to use technology is important if you want them to use it to do their work. If I had them use power point, I would first have to assess their understanding of the program. For those that are not familiar with it, I would model how to use it and then give them a day to fiddle with it and create their own using a certain number of effects. Also, I would give them choices for output so they would not be constrained to something they totally hate and they could actually dive into the topic they have. I love my teacher...

  4. Good way of having students collaborate to form ideas and create a final project to be presented by the class. This is useful for whole class discussion. It is also a good exercise to use to have the students participate in peer review and reflection while having fun utilizing technology.

  5. We can show our students that writing isn't just pencil on paper. Also, it allows them to have fun while performing a scholastic task. Doing an activity like this may harp on their creativity and help to bring it out in their more trational type writing applications. All in all it is a break from the norm. They will probably remember it more than a forced essay and they will be honing skills they can apply to future endeavors.

I could use this in a non-computer format. My students would have access to Powerpoint, but not for presentation, so I would probably have to have them draw or use other artistic means to create their projects.

I also really like the idea of having them respond to an assignment, no matter what type of work it is. It will help them reflect on their learning, and help me reflect on my practices.

I can see using this activity in different ways in my classroom. One example would be to use with vocabulary words and commericals.

  7. Todays exercise illustrated the importance of team collaboration. Additionally, it outlined the importance of familarizing ones self with technology. In our classroom we can use this project as a reference to our teaching style and assumptions. We must not assume that all of our students have the resources or knowlege to complete the assignment.

  8. Because Catina and I both have different strenghts, we were good collaborators. I was comfortable with the creating of the shoe and doing the process maps. Catina had MUCH more knowledge of PowerPoint than myself. We both found the project enjoyable with the addition of creating the powerpoint. It was a way to create in a way other than writing words.
